The Comprehensive Approaches to Sex Offender Management (CASOM) Grant Program is authorized under Title IV of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994, Pub. L. No. 103-322, 42 U.S.C. 13941. The CASOM grants are awarded to state, local, and tribal jurisdictions to develop or enhance sex offender management practices for offenders under community supervision. The Office of Justice Programs awards implementation and enhancement grants. Implementation and Enhancement grants are intended to assist jurisdictions to either implement strategic plans already developed or to enhance existing sex offender management strategies.
The Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office is requesting grant funding under the FY2006 Comprehensive Approaches to Sex Offender Management Program to implement its Enhancement Strategy to the 'Lafourche Parish Sex Offender Accountability Program (SOAP). The SOAP Committee has formulated the following goals and activities to address identified needs in effecting a comprehensive, victim-centered approach to sex offender management in the Lafourche Parish: 1) To increase collaboration among stakeholders by increasing membership on the SOAP Committee; 2) To implement an on-going process of collecting and analyzing information by developing and implementing a Data Collection and Analysis Plan; and 3) To increase sex offender accountability and victim community safety by developing and implementing a Sex Offender Orientation Program. This grant will be used to fund one full time SOAP Coordinator and one part time Program Assistant, travel costs for staff to attend training, and office supplies.
