Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $95,970)

The Office of Prosecutorial Development Assistance and Training (OPDAT) will use Fiscal Year (FY) 2008 Solicited Award funds to continue support of the Transnational Terrorism Crime and Corruption Centers (TraCCC) project in Tbilisi, Georgia. TraCCC will continue to develop the capacity of Georgian policymakers, law enforcement, legislators and scholars to address issues of money laundering, organized crime and corruption as well as links of these phenomena to terrorism. The research conducted by TraCCC scholars will assist policymakers and the public in making informed decisions to deal with these issues.

The TraCCC Georgia project has two program goals: 1) provide expertise and develop the capacity needed to implement new legislation on money laundering and address financial crimes in the region and, 2) provide expertise and develop the ability of Georgian experts to prevent, detect, investigate and prosecute organized crime and corruption.

OPDAT award funds will be used to support personnel costs for TraCCC research staff, foreign travel and contracts.
