The Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program is designed to assist states, state courts, local courts, units of local government, and Indian tribal governments in developing and establishing drug courts for substance-abusing adult and juvenile offenders. Drug court programs funded by the Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program are required by law to target nonviolent offenders. The program supports the following activities: adult drug court implementation, single jurisdiction drug court enhancement, statewide drug court enhancement, and planning efforts.

The Second Judicial District will use the grant funds to implement a drug court. This drug court will address the severity and prevalence of chronic DWI offenders in the district. Participants of the DWI Court will be enrolled in both cognitive programming on safe driving and traditional chemical dependency treatment. Additionally, DWI Court participants will be offered low intensity outpatient, high intensity outpatient, residential, primary inpatient, relapse prevention and aftercare services. Participants are also expected to attend community support group meetings once they have finished treatment.
