Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2007, $107,951)

The Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program is designed to assist states, state courts, local courts, units of local government, and Indian tribal governments in developing and establishing drug courts for substance-abusing adult and juvenile offenders. Drug court programs funded by the Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program are required by law to target nonviolent offenders. The program supports the following activities: adult drug court implementation, single jurisdiction drug court enhancement, statewide drug court enhancement, and planning efforts.

The Putnam County Adult Drug Court will use their Fiscal Year 2007 Drug Court Discretionary Grant funds to enhance their existing drug court. The purpose of the enhancement is to promote public safety by utilizing community resources to reduce substance abuse and related criminal activity. The goals of the Putnam County Adult Drug Court Enhancement Project are to improve the data collection system, conduct outcome and process evaluations, and provide drug court training and community awareness. The drug court will continue to serve non-violent adult offenders who are primarily residents of Putnam County, have an alcohol or drug related misdemeanor charge, present a high risk for re-offending, and are recommended for participation in the drug court by the team's clinician.
