Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2007, $725,000)
The Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Anti-Gang Training Program is authorized by the Science, State, Justice and Commerce and Related Agencies, FY 2006 Appropriations Act, Pub. L. 109-108. The Institute of Intergovernmental Research (IIR) will develop anti-gang curricula and deliver training to local law enforcement agencies and other justice agencies in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Justice's (DOJ's) Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN) Initiative. They will continue the development of anti-gang curricula, schedule and coordinate training logistics, and support the delivery of training primarily to local law enforcement agencies and, on a limited basis, other justice agencies across the United States.
The Institute of Intergovernmental Research will use a multifaceted approach to fully develop and deliver an anti-gang training program for law enforcement, prosecutors, and criminal justice practitioners. They will use a combination of core and optional training modules delivered by federal, state and local subject matter experts. IIR will also use quality curricula and a professional training delivery system to provide valuable knowledge, tools and strategies to be used by local PSN sites in their fight against gangs and gun violence.
