Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $990,000)

The National Association of Drug Court Professionals (NADCP), National Drug Court Institute (NDCI), through funds provided by the Office of the National Drug Control Policy, will provide education, research, and scholarship to the drug court field and other court intervention programs. The mission of the institute is to help develop a drug court in every county in the United States through its training and technical assistance projects. NDCI provides comprehensive drug court training with a long-term view of addressing present and future needs of the field.

Training participants begin their knowledge journey, on the first tier of NDCI training, as they attend the Drug Court Planning Initiative (DCPI) training series. This training is designed to educate the entire team of key criminal and civil justice stakeholders from a judicial jurisdiction to plan and implement their drug court. The second tier of NDCI training is the Comprehensive Drug Court Practitioner Training Series, a specialized training for each discipline on the drug court team. These weeklong, intensive training programs are designed to educate the drug court practitioner, with a focus on those skills specific to each respective discipline. The third and final tier of NDCI training is topical, providing advanced theory and hands-on assistance in the development of different drug court components.
