Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $335,381)

The Edward Byrne Memorial Discretionary Grants Program (Byrne Discretionary Program) helps local communities improve the capacity of local justice systems and provides for national support efforts. This project is authorized and funded through a line item in the FY 08 Congressional Budget. Funds should be used for purposes recommended by Congress.

The Northwest Missouri Interagency Team Response Operation (NITRO) is a multi-jurisdictional task force that was designed to battle the drug and violent crime problems of Northwest Missouri. NITRO will continue to enhance the cooperation and coordination among the 30 different law enforcement agencies throughout the task force area. NITRO will continue provide methamphetamine laboratory expertise to local law enforcement and investigate larger scale drug trafficking organizations. In addition, NITRO provides drug education presentations to local civic groups and citizens to assist the public in recognizing precursors in the manufacture of methamphetamines as well as gain a better understanding about law enforcement operations.
