The Edward Byrne Memorial Discretionary Grants Program (Byrne Discretionary Program) helps local communities improve the capacity of local justice systems and provides for national support efforts. This project is authorized and funded through a line item in the FY 08 Congressional Budget. Funds should be used for purposes recommended by Congress.
The Tallapoosa County Sheriff's Department will purchase an additional fifteen Digital In-Car Camera Systems for the department vehicles in order to furnish all officers with the same equipment. The equipment will provide a more advance method of documenting evidence for court proceedings related to traffic stops, domestic violence incidents, officer safety and other incidents. The department will utilize the wireless communication with the Digital In-Car Camera System and purchase USB 150 Pc cards under broadband speed. The wireless internet access will provide the officer with immediate access to information that will be valuable in the performance of his/her duties.
