The Edward Byrne Memorial Discretionary Grants Program (Byrne Discretionary Program) helps local communities improve the capacity of local justice systems and provides for national support efforts. This project is authorized and funded through a line item in the FY 08 Congressional Budget. Funds should be used for purposes recommended by Congress.

The Kane County Sheriff's Office will continue the integration and modernization of the County's criminal justice records systems, which serve at least 18 agencies. The Kane County Public Safety Information Systems Plan 2010 will provide for an interoperable law enforcement database and public safety, law enforcement, and jail management system, which will also link to the court systems. This system will allow all first responders to access records ultimately enhancing investigations and criminal apprehension, creating greater efficiency by eliminating duplicate data and multiple entry point requirements, and generating complete statistical analysis data covering multiple jurisdictions within the County.
