The Edward Byrne Memorial Discretionary Grants Program (Byrne Discretionary Program) helps local communities improve the capacity of local justice systems and provides for national support efforts. This project is authorized and funded through a line item in the FY 08 Congressional Budget. Funds should be used for purposes recommended by Congress.

The University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), Judicial Studies Program offers Masters and Doctoral degrees to sitting judges. UNR's new Justice Management Program offers a distance-education Masters program for those seeking university education or advancement in the varied fields associated with the administration of justice. Through the Judicial Studies and Justice Management Education Project, they will facilitate the education and continued professional growth of judges through tuition assistance for students attending UNR courses. They will also provide an avenue for continued professional growth and credentialing for other court personnel by enabling the Justice Management Program to continue to develop and offer advanced online courses in a program specifically for court administrators, parole and probation officers, bailiffs, and other court personnel.
