Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $447,174)

The Edward Byrne Memorial Discretionary Grants Program (Byrne Discretionary Program) helps local communities improve the capacity of local justice systems and provides for national support efforts. This project is authorized and funded through a line item in the FY 08 Congressional Budget. Funds should be used for purposes recommended by Congress.

The County of Sedgwick will automate and streamline many separate and manual case filing processes in the Office of the District Attorney Records Division. They will automate the transfer of law enforcement reports to the Wichita Police Department. The County of Sedgwick will improve the receipt, processing, distribution, and archiving of law enforcement reports connected to criminal case prosecution. The goal is a more efficient, thorough, and cohesive method of records management through utilization of equipment, records management software, professional and technical services, and staff necessary to enhance and improve existing processes. The objective is to obtain an interface between OnBase, JustWare, and LaserFiche, bringing all three products together into a comprehensive and cohesive records management system.
