Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $223,587)

The Edward Byrne Memorial Discretionary Grants Program (Byrne Discretionary Program) helps local communities improve the capacity of local justice systems and provides for national support efforts. This project is authorized and funded through a line item in the FY 08 Congressional Budget. Funds should be used for purposes recommended by Congress.

Operation Our Town Inc. will address drug use and crime in Blair County, Pennsylvania through proven law enforcement, treatment, and prevention techniques. They will support prevention and treatment programs including after-school programs, street outreach programs, clean-up, and neighborhood watch programs. Operation Our Town will support training and equipment for the Blair County Drug Task Force, Logan Township Police Department, and the Association of Blair County Law Enforcement. The special operations that will be implemented will include a warrant squad, interdiction squad, saturation patrols, search warrants, Push Out the Pusher drug hotline public awareness campaign, stakeout details, and drug raids. The goal is to increase the amount of law enforcement activity within Blair County and will therefore reduce the amount of drugs and crime in the community.
