Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $297,371)

The Edward Byrne Memorial Discretionary Grants Program (Byrne Discretionary Program) helps local communities improve the capacity of local justice systems and provides for national support efforts. This project is authorized and funded through a line item in the FY 08 Congressional Budget. Funds should be used for purposes recommended by Congress.

The Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence (PCADV) will continue the development and launching of a Domestic Violence Training, Education and Prevention Institute, creating innovative education and prevention initiatives. They will build the capacity of PCADV and community-based programs to provide life-saving services; and educate the public and systems responding to domestic violence on effective strategies to address and prevent domestic violence. PCADV works to eliminate the crime of domestic violence through public education as well as training and technical assistance to organizations, communities, and policy-makers. PCADV advocates on behalf of battered women through the promotion of public policies and the development of legislation that strengthens their legal protections.
