The Essex County Sheriff's Department (ECSD) will expand their current program to combat substance abuse problems among teenagers in Essex County. They will support substance abuse preventive education and treatment; train the trainer seminars for teachers; and a parent seminar that will teach parents how to discuss drug abuse with their teenagers. ECSD will implement an educational and treatment program (Toward No Drugs); develop a post-treatment plan for individual counseling participants that will focus on the individual needs of the client; develop a 'Train the Trainer' program that is available to high school teachers and administrators which will provide training about how to recognize substance abuse issues in students; and develop a seminar for parents regarding drug abuse, specifically prescription and over the counter medications.
