The Edward Byrne Memorial Discretionary Grants Program (Byrne Discretionary Program) helps local communities improve the capacity of local justice systems and provides for national support efforts. This project is authorized and funded through a line item in the FY 08 Congressional Budget. Funds should be used for purposes recommended by Congress.

The Asian Pacific Women's Center (APWC) will support the Organizational Improvement and Capacity Building Project. The purpose of this project is to update their computer systems in order to efficiently and effectively connect each of their locations, serve their clients, and enhance their sustainability. This project will benefit not only daily clients, but also volunteers, donors, and board members and increase education and awareness of domestic violence, which will lead to increased prevention and reduction in crime. APWC'S goal is to build their capacity to strengthen and expand domestic violence and shelter services to help more victims of domestic violence.
