Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $212,408)

The Edward Byrne Memorial Discretionary Grants Program (Byrne Discretionary Program) helps local communities improve the capacity of local justice systems and provides for national support efforts. This project is authorized and funded through a line item in the FY 08 Congressional Budget. Funds should be used for purposes recommended by Congress.

The City of Saint Paul will replace all of the outdoor warning sirens, the radio link, and associated systems to activate an entire new system. The City of Saint Paul's current community warning siren system is aging, outdated, and replacement parts to repair are no longer available. This system is at risk of complete failure, resulting in an inability to adequately warn the public. The City of Saint Paul will fund a reliable citizen alerting system to provide warning for hazardous weather conditions, fires, floods, chemical spills, and other types of emergencies.
