Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $335,381)

The Edward Byrne Memorial Discretionary Grants Program (Byrne Discretionary Program) helps local communities improve the capacity of local justice systems and provides for national support efforts. This project is authorized and funded through a line item in the FY 08 Congressional Budget. Funds should be used for purposes recommended by Congress.

The Louisiana District Attorneys Association (LDAA) will upgrade their Prosecutors' Management Information System (PIMS). The primary goal of the implementation of this statewide case management system is to enhance the interagency data sharing capabilities with law enforcement, district attorneys, and the courts. This includes interfaces to law enforcement agencies that will allow the prosecutor's CRIMES system to import arrest information and the exporting of criminal history by the Clerks of Court systems, which will enhance prosecutorial proceedings. LDAA will fund a Project Coordinator, contractual costs associated with the upgrades and system interfaces, travel to District Attorney's Offices for installation of the system and training of staff, equipment, and other costs necessary for the completion of the project.
