Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $1,162,653)

The Edward Byrne Memorial Discretionary Grants Program (Byrne Discretionary Program) helps local communities improve the capacity of local justice systems and provides for national support efforts. This project is authorized and funded through a line item in the FY 08 Congressional Budget. Funds should be used for purposes recommended by Congress.

The Idaho Department of Corrections will develop and implement a modular code design for a Correctional Integrated System (CIS). This system will create an easy to use program that can be used to share data about offenders by participants of the National Consortium of Offender Management Systems. The goal of this project is to share information about offenders among other correctional agencies and other stakeholders. The objective is to complete the modular redesign of the original CIS code to comply with the Corrections Technology Association's 17 Correctional Standards and Common Function Development for Information Management Systems. The Idaho Department of Corrections will hire four contracted programmers and one contracted data warehouse specialist to implement the goals and objectives of the project.
