The Edward Byrne Memorial Discretionary Grants Program (Byrne Discretionary Program) helps local communities improve the capacity of local justice systems and provides for national support efforts. This project is authorized and funded through a line item in the FY 08 Congressional Budget. Funds should be used for purposes recommended by Congress.

The County of North Hampton will support the development of a Child Advocacy Center (CAC). The CAC will provide a comprehensive, culturally competent, multidisciplinary team response to allegations of child abuse. The goals are to foster professional collaboration, provide community education, and advocate for children related to child neglect and child abuse; and reduce young victim trauma by creating a child-friendly and warm environment with coordinated access to multiple essential services. The major objectives are to assemble a multidisciplinary team with professionals that work with children when there are allegations of abuse; educate those in the helping professions and the general public about child neglect and abuse; advocate for the protection of children and the provision of adequate resources for the prevention and treatment of child neglect and abuse; reduce the incidence of child abuse and increase the identification of child abuse.
