Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $250,000)

The Advertising (Ad) Council Inc. will maintain, renew, and redistribute already-developed public service advertising products (PSAs)to reduce gun crime and make our communities safer under the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program. The PSAs include TV, radio, and out of home advertising, targeted to at-risk youth. PSN is a comprehensive, strategic approach to reducing gun crime in America. By linking together federal, state, and local law enforcement, prosecutors, and community leaders, PSN provides a multifaceted approach to deterring and punishing gun crime.

The Ad Council and a volunteer agency will continue to renew the PSAs from the existing campaign as well as the 'Mothers' PSA. This is an opportunity to highlight relevant messages regarding either "gang violence and guns" or "drugs and guns", since they fall under the existing strategic crime prevention umbrella. All of the creative materials will be based on U.S. Department of Justice input, and will reflect the current balance of social and enforcement messaging that has been successfully employed thus far. The Ad Council will also redistribute the existing television and radio executions, as well as continue to monitor all executions in the marketplace.
