Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $339,852)
The Edward Byrne Memorial Discretionary Grants Program (Byrne Discretionary Program) helps local communities improve the capacity of local justice systems and provides for national support efforts. This project is authorized and funded through a line item in the FY 08 Congressional Budget. Funds should be used for purposes recommended by Congress.
The Shade Tree, Inc. will use the grant funds to support the H.O.P.E. (Hope, Opportunity, and Personal-development through Education) Center, which delivers 'best practice' services to homeless and abused adults. The goal of this project is to reduce barriers that prevent victims of abuse from breaking the cycle of homelessness and abuse by offering them hope through life-changing opportunities, personal development, education, and training. By offering intensive case-management, job development, life skills, childcare, and other supportive services to clients who have been touched by violence and abuse, the project will address causal factors allowing victims to move toward self-sufficiency. The Shade Tree, Inc. will expand employment, training, and life skills opportunities for homeless and abused adult clients; and increase childcare and specialized activities for children affected by homelessness and abuse.
