Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $89,435)

The Edward Byrne Memorial Discretionary Grants Program (Byrne Discretionary Program) helps local communities improve the capacity of local justice systems and provides for national support efforts. This project is authorized and funded through a line item in the FY 08 Congressional Budget. Funds should be used for purposes recommended by Congress.

The Crossroads Counseling Center will provide preventative care and support to youth and families in the areas of education, mentoring, and counseling in an effort to prevent substance abuse and gang activity in Long Island, New York communities. Services will include individual and group counseling sessions, after school homework assistance, and the provision of referral services. Through the grant, operation expenses and the salaries of staff will be supported for program administration and oversight, as well as resource development.
