Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $2,414,741)

The Edward Byrne Memorial Discretionary Grants Program (Byrne Discretionary Program) helps local communities improve the capacity of local justice systems and provides for national support efforts. This project is authorized and funded through a line item in the FY 08 Congressional Budget. Funds should be used for purposes recommended by Congress.

The University of Mississippi School of Law's National Center for Justice and the Rule of Law (NCJRL), in partnership with the National Association of Attorneys General and the National Judicial College will continue to offer the only two national training programs for state attorney general offices to develop expertise to fight cyber crime and for state trial and appellate judges to develop their expertise on search and seizure of electronic evidence. In partnership with Mississippi State University, NCJRL will offer a training program for trial judges and law enforcement on the search and seizure of computers.
