The Edward Byrne Memorial Discretionary Grants Program (Byrne Discretionary Program) helps local communities improve the capacity of local justice systems and provides for national support efforts. This project is authorized and funded through a line item in the FY 08 Congressional Budget. Funds should be used for purposes recommended by Congress.

The Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force (Task Force) will continue to support their Methamphetamine Hot Spots Program to combat the illicit sale and production of methamphetamine in 20 county areas in Western Kentucky. The Task Force is providing educational programs on the dangers and effects of methamphetamine to law enforcement, schools, civic organizations, and churches. Training is also provided by the Task Force to law enforcement in Western Kentucky to enhance their skills in the investigation of persons manufacturing and selling methamphetamine. The Task Force will continue to assist counties and cities as they form Drug Endangered Children Coalitions to serve and protect children living in methamphetamine homes.
