The Edward Byrne Memorial Discretionary Grants Program (Byrne Discretionary Program) helps local communities improve the capacity of local justice systems and provides for national support efforts. This project is authorized and funded through a line item in the FY 08 Congressional Budget. Funds should be used for purposes recommended by Congress.
The Mobile County Commission will develop a comprehensive interoperability data sharing project. The project will include the automation and integration of data from criminal databases and intelligence gathering systems while making the information accessible in the field through a wireless infrastructure. The infrastructure will include the use of wireless cards and smart phones and a secure access of real-time data house in the county's servers. The project will benefit the 400,526 residents in Mobile County. Access to the web portal will be expanded to approximately 80 municipal, county, state and federal law enforcement agencies. The Mobile County Commission will: design and implement a comprehensive interoperability data sharing program; share information through a wireless infrastructure; analyze real-time data assisting law enforcement with crime analysis in a fusion center environment; and, make accessibility a simple and user friendly experience to broaden the number and range of users.
