Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $127,445)

The Edward Byrne Memorial Discretionary Grants Program (Byrne Discretionary Program) helps local communities improve the capacity of local justice systems and provides for national support efforts. This project is authorized and funded through a line item in the FY 08 Congressional Budget. Funds should be used for purposes recommended by Congress.

The Generations, Inc. will provide a safe haven (24 hour shelter) for women, and their children, who have been victimized by domestic violence (physical, psychological, sexual, educational, and economic abuse). The goals are as follow: reduce the incident of domestic and family violence in Camden County and surrounding areas by employing various intervention strategies designed to break the cycles of abuse; reduce crime statistics as they relate to substance abuse and domestic violence; increase family stabilization and promote positive social outcomes by altering the affects of violence on family outcomes; reduce the occurrence of homelessness related to domestic violence; and assist shelter residents and other victims of domestic violence in identifying security and maintain suitable employment.
