Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $558,968)

The Edward Byrne Memorial Discretionary Grants Program (Byrne Discretionary Program) helps local communities improve the capacity of local justice systems and provides for national support efforts. This project is authorized and funded through a line item in the FY 08 Congressional Budget. Funds should be used for purposes recommended by Congress.

The Adams County Government, in coordination with the Adams County Sheriff's Office, will use the grant funds to purchase COPLINK, a data storage system. COPLINK is a data storage and analysis system that will enable Adams County law enforcement agencies to share and analyze data with other law enforcement agencies in Broomfield and Jefferson Counties. This will result in more effective crime solving efforts and service to both communities. Grant funds will also be used to hire a project manager to oversee the implementation of the COPLINK project. This project will include upgrading the Jefferson and Broomfield Counties' equipment to host the Adams County data and permit queries from Adams County law enforcement sworn officers. The secure VPN tunnel needs to be coordinated and built. The project manager will supervise the data conversion from the various data sources within Adams County, and will organize and oversee the training needed for the users.
