Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $894,348)

The Edward Byrne Memorial Discretionary Grants Program (Byrne Discretionary Program) helps local communities improve the capacity of local justice systems and provides for national support efforts. This project is authorized and funded through a line item in the FY 08 Congressional Budget. Funds should be used for purposes recommended by Congress.

The Centenary College will develop a fully-integrated incident response and crisis management training for law enforcement officers and first responders serving 90 small rural and suburban communities in northwest New Jersey. Law Enforcement officers and first responders in Warren, Sussex, and Hunterdon counties and other bordering municipalities in New Jersey will be able to access incident response and crisis management training. The Centenary College will provide hands-on and virtual training program to the rural and suburban agencies and their communities in the areas of incident response, crisis management, community-wide threat assessments, post-incident management, integration of public and private sector response, and law enforcement leadership and supervision.
