Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $424,815)

The Edward Byrne Memorial Discretionary Grants Program (Byrne Discretionary Program) helps local communities improve the capacity of local justice systems and provides for national support efforts. This project is authorized and funded through a line item in the FY 08 Congressional Budget. Funds should be used for purposes recommended by Congress.

The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe will support education, training, and certification for their tribal courts and probation office staff. The tribe will purchase and update equipment and technology for the tribal courts and probation offices to address inadequate staff training and outdated equipment. The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe will provide staff with the necessary curriculum trainings, new technology, and equipment to improve court and probation services.
