Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $424,974)

The Institute for Law and Justice (ILJ) will provide logistical support, training, and technical assistance to the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Anti-Gang Trainings and replication trainings for the Drug Market Intervention Initiative. PSN is a comprehensive, strategic approach to reducing gun crime in America. By linking together federal, state, and local law enforcement, prosecutors, and community leaders, PSN provides a multifaceted approach to deterring and punishing gun crime. ILJ added additional trainings to this initiative: the PSN Anti-Gang Trainings were developed to deliver comprehensive anti-gang prevention, enforcement, and prisoner reentry training for state and local law enforcement and related partner organizations. The Drug Market Intervention Initiative is designed to address the challenges of effectively responding to illegal drug markets and their associated crime, violence, and disorder--a problem faced by communities and law enforcement agencies around the country.
