Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $1,120,278)
The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG) allows states, tribes, and local governments to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on their own local needs and conditions. Grant funds can be used for state and local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, and information systems for criminal justice for any one or more of the following purpose areas: 1) law enforcement programs; 2) prosecution and court programs; 3) prevention and education programs; 4) corrections and community corrections programs; 5) drug treatment programs; 6) planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs; and 7) crime victim and witness programs (other than compensation).
The Connecticut Office of Policy and Management will utilize their Fiscal Year 2008 Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) funds in accordance with the JAG Program requirements. The funds will be used for the following types of programs or activities: 1) recidivism reduction activities that will support intervention, treatment, and aftercare components; 2) accountability and reentry activities that will focus on prison and jail crowding reduction; and 3) systems improvement activities that will focus on developing a more cohesive criminal justice system through coordination of multijurisdictional criminal justice activities; developing data collection systems; assessing cost-effective uses of public funds; evaluating evidence based programs; measuring community based services; and developing reporting systems to track trends and outcomes. Administrative funds will be used by the Office of Policy and Management for salaries, travel, training, and supplies for grant administration of the JAG funds.
