Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $35,921)
The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG) allows states, tribes, and local governments to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on their own local needs and conditions. Grant funds can be used for state and local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, and information systems for criminal justice for any one or more of the following purpose areas: 1) law enforcement programs; 2) prosecution and court programs; 3) prevention and education programs; 4) corrections and community corrections programs; 5) drug treatment programs; 6) planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs; and 7) crime victim and witness programs (other than compensation).
The County of Henrico will use their Fiscal Year 2008 JAG award in the amount of $35,921 to enhance the ability of its police department to provide professional and efficient service to its citizens. The County of Henrico will purchase three GPS Hardware kits that will provide investigators with real-time data of a suspect's vehicular movements; two GIS licenses that will enable investigators from the Criminal Investigations Section to use the Orion GPS Trackers; two relay boxes that are necessary for installing one extra Orion GPS Tracker license; one covert outdoor surveillance system that allows for remote viewing of suspects through video, and controlled in the internet environment; seven Elite Face Masks that will increase the SWAT Team's capability to 'Level B' coverage; and four SWAT sniper rifle scopes that will give the SWAT rifles more accuracy at night.
