Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $232,022)
The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG) allows states, tribes, and local governments to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on their own local needs and conditions. Grant funds can be used for state and local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, and information systems for criminal justice for any one or more of the following purpose areas: 1) law enforcement programs; 2) prosecution and court programs; 3) prevention and education programs; 4) corrections and community corrections programs; 5) drug treatment programs; 6) planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs; and 7) crime victim and witness programs (other than compensation).
The disparate jurisdictions consisting of the County of Bernalillo County and the City of Albuquerque will utilize their Fiscal Year 2008 Justice Assistance Grant award in the amount of $232,022 to quickly and safely address potential violent occurrences in order to protect the public and the officers. The City of Albuquerque will use $196,512 to purchase 24 bicycles for the Field Service Bureau; 60 GPS units, one video surveillance pole camera, and 55 tactical vests for Special Investigations; four camera systems for Violent Crimes; six Noveske Carbine Rifles with Aimpoint M4 Scopes and Tactical Surefire M910 lights for Metro Law Enforcement; one Top-Loading High Capacity Balance, one ABI 7500 Real Time PCR System, and one ABI 9700 Thermal Cycler for Scientific Evidence; and six Volcanic bicycles, six rear disk racks, six Rac Pac 2 trunk bags, and six lighting systems for Search and Rescue. The County of Bernalillo will use $35,510 to purchase 40 tasers with holsters and batteries, four Baker bat shields, six automated external defibrillators, 14 spare AED electrode pads, 14 spare CPR masks, and five spare AED lithium batteries.
