Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $11,924)

The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG) allows states, tribes, and local governments to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on their own local needs and conditions. Grant funds can be used for state and local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, and information systems for criminal justice for any one or more of the following purpose areas: 1) law enforcement programs; 2) prosecution and court programs; 3) prevention and education programs; 4) corrections and community corrections programs; 5) drug treatment programs; 6) planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs; and 7) crime victim and witness programs (other than compensation).

The disparate jurisdictions of the City of Warner Robins and the County of Houston will use their Fiscal Year 2008 JAG award in the amount of $11,924 to purchase an additional module for their local Records Management System. The Records Management System is a database that is shared by the two departments. Keeping the law enforcement records electronically has been a positive step for the Police Department and the Sheriff's Office. Since the database is shared between the two agencies along with the Centerville Police Department, officers have access to information for incidents throughout the participating cities and county. Coordination between the law enforcement jurisdictions and the court system within Houston County benefits all of the agencies and the citizens that they serve. Building the Records Management System by adding modules increases the abilities and tools of the Warner Robins Police Department and the Houston County Sheriff's Office. The awarded funds will be used by the Warner Robins Police Department for the project.
