Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $203,540)
The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG) allows states, tribes, and local governments to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on their own local needs and conditions. Grant funds can be used for state and local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, and information systems for criminal justice for any one or more of the following purpose areas: 1) law enforcement programs; 2) prosecution and court programs; 3) prevention and education programs; 4) corrections and community corrections programs; 5) drug treatment programs; 6) planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs; and 7) crime victim and witness programs (other than compensation).
The disparate jurisdictions of the cities of Little Rock and North Little Rock and the county of Pulaski will utilize their Fiscal Year 2008 JAG award in the amount $203,540 for law enforcement purposes. The city of Little Rock will serve as the fiscal agent for the award. The City of North Little Rock will purchase six mobile computers and software. The City of Little Rock Police Department ($111,947) will upgrade their records management system, enhance in-car computer equipment, and purchase supplies and information systems as needed in support of the law enforcement and public safety functions of the Little Rock Police Department.
The County of Pulaski Sheriff's Department ($45,796.50) and the North Little Rock City Police Department ($45,796.50) will both use their funds to purchase equipment and supplies. Pulaski County will modernize their Sheriff's Department's computerized crime information storage and retrieval system by purchasing computer software, hardware, a server system, licensing fees, and on-site training.
