Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $55,000)
The U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division, Office of Special Counsel for Immigration Related Unfair Employment Practices (OSC) is providing funds for grants to conduct public education programs about the rights afforded potential victims of employment discrimination and the responsibilities of employers under the anti-discrimination provision of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), 8 U.S.C. §1324b. Applicants were selected based on their capacity to design and successfully implement public education campaigns to address immigration related unfair employment discrimination. Grantees demonstrate the ability to educate workers, employers and/or the general public about the anti-discrimination provision of the INA.
Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Palm Beach, Inc. will offer specialized educational services to: legal workers (citizens and non-citizens), small business owners, and non-profit agency professionals who have direct contact with immigrant workers. The project will: conduct media campaigns; provide group education; conduct outreach at public events; and, provide assistance to victims filing employment discrimination grievances.
Catholic Charities will also develop and maintain a website that will display updated policies, procedures, and contact information regarding the Immigration and Nationality Act.
