Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $250,000)
Under this award, the City of San Jose will further develop and operate a victim-centered human trafficking task force in conjunction with the U. S. Attorney's Office, Federal law enforcement, and the Office for Victims of Crime Human Trafficking Services. The goal of this program is to identify and rescue victims of trafficking through a victim centered, proactive investigation strategy.
The city of San Jose will use its FY 2008 award to support the police department's Human Trafficking Task Force (HTTF) activities. The HTTF collaborates with the United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of California and the South Bay Coalition to End Human Trafficking. The HTTF will continue its public awareness campaign to increase the knowledge of human trafficking, and create a demand reduction program that targets the buyers of prostitution. In addition, the HTTF will continue to train law enforcement personnel and service providers who may come into contract with trafficking victims, and increase the awareness of trafficking in immigrant communities through materials printed or broadcast in appropriate native languages. Funds will pay for salaries and overtime, travel to conferences, investigations, supplies, and contract costs for public awareness campaigns.
