Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $150,000)

Street Law, Inc. will continue the Educating to Protect Intellectual Property project. This prevention initiative is designed to educate young people about the importance of intellectual property, the law and policies protecting it, and the responsibilities of citizens in respecting it. During the initial phase of the project, the partners established three demonstration sites nationally to provide awareness, teacher training and resources, and then to pilot the curriculum. Each of the three sites conducted staff development for at least 20 teachers and prepared legal resources for classroom visits, where they participated in lessons developed by the project.

Street Law, Inc. will: launch a special web site with free downloadable materials for educators and an area for students, providing information and free downloads; develop curriculum materials (online and hard copy); expand focus on professional development to educators at the demonstration sites with an increase in the number of teachers; identify legal resource people who will make classroom visits to help deliver these lessons at the demonstration sites; select national outreach activities to legal and educational communities; and, link this program with the activities of the Attorney General's Task Force on Intellectual Property.
