The Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program is designed to assist states, state courts, local courts, units of local government, and Indian tribal governments in developing and establishing drug courts for substance-abusing adult and juvenile offenders. Drug court programs funded by the Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program are required by law to target nonviolent offenders. The program supports the following activities: adult drug court implementation, single jurisdiction drug court enhancement, statewide drug court enhancement, and planning efforts.

The Chesterfield County/Colonial Heights Drug Court program will use the FY 2009 Drug Court Enhancement grant to continue drug and substance abuse services including expediting access to psychiatric services, improving parenting skills and family functioning, and providing skill-based training and technical assistance for drug court team members. The primary goal of the project is to reduce cocaine and heroin related crimes and addictions, and rehabilitate and provide additional substance abuse training and programs to promote long term recovery in program participants. In addition, all clients will participate in an intensive outreach program that consists of relapse prevention, skill development, and Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT). The project will incorporate increased access to a continuum of alcohol, drug, and other related treatment and rehabilitation services and interdisciplinary education that promotes effective planning, implementation and operation.
