Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $350,000)
The Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program is designed to assist states, state courts, local courts, units of local government, and Indian tribal governments in developing and establishing drug courts for substance-abusing adult and juvenile offenders. Drug court programs funded by the Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program are required by law to target nonviolent offenders. The program supports the following activities: adult drug court implementation, single jurisdiction drug court enhancement, statewide drug court enhancement, and planning efforts.
The county of Centre will use the FY 2009 Drug Court Implementation grant to serve offenders facing a mandatory one year jail sentence. The program will consider second and third time offenders facing revocation. The defendant must be a county resident, eligible for intermediate punishment, be a substance abuser/dependent, and be motivated to participate in the program and comply with all conditions. Assessments will be done by The DUI Court TASC Case Manager. Substance abuse treatment will be provided in group and individual sessions. Penn State University will assist the program in conducting a process/outcome evaluation with the use of an automated data collection system.
