Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $34,489)

The Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program is designed to assist states, state courts, local courts, units of local government, and Indian tribal governments in developing and establishing drug courts for substance-abusing adult and juvenile offenders. Drug court programs funded by the Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program are required by law to target nonviolent offenders. The program supports the following activities: adult drug court implementation, single jurisdiction drug court enhancement, statewide drug court enhancement, and planning efforts.

The county Of Oneida will use the drug court enhancement grant to address three needs that include after-care treatment for participants, additional training in drug court philosophy and operations, and a data collection system to analyze data and recommend improvements to the drug court. Funding will support the program by allowing for a contract with A-Z Family Services to provide additional and individualized services for Drug Court participants, especially in the areas of anger management, domestic violence prevention, and job skills training. The service provider will also provide after-care treatment for drug court graduates, including counseling, anger management, job skills training, and other services. Grant funds will pay for the attendance of drug court staff to the annual drug court national conference and a state or national drug court training. Grant funding will also enable the program to contract with an expert to redesign the data collection system.
