Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $1,250,000)

The National Alliance for Model State Drug Laws (NAMSDL) will provide legislative and policy assistance to help state, local, and tribal officials, drug and alcohol professionals, and Congress create a more comprehensive continuum of drug and alcohol laws, policies, and services. NAMSDL will dedicate funds to comprehensive legislative and policy projects on prescription drugs and on access to treatment. Additionally, NAMSDL will provide a combination of the following legislative and policy services: (1) conducting a national or regional conference; (2) drafting and distributing model laws, policies, regulations, or related revisions; (3) creation and dissemination of documents explaining model laws and policies and related state laws; (4) developing and disseminating comparative analyses of states' laws, bills, policies, and regulations; (5) reviewing and suggesting enhancements to proposed bills or legislative drafts; (6) recommending drafting tips and law or code enhancements; and (7) conducting a state model law needs assessment.
