Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $675,000)

The Institute for Intergovernmental Research (IIR) will provide support to assist state, local, tribal, and federal officials with the implementation of a national information sharing capability, as identified by the National Strategy for Information Sharing, in collaboration with the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) and the Program Manager for the Information Sharing Environment (PM-ISE). IIR will provide: coordination and support for meetings of state, local, tribal, and federal partners relating to issues with achievement of the national information sharing capability; ongoing development and implementation of the Nationwide Suspicious Activity Reporting (SAR) Initiative; development of guidance and training on establishing trusted partnerships between law enforcement agencies and the multicultural communities they serve; and technical assistance to federal agencies in the development of their ISE Privacy and Civil Liberties Policies. IIR will also support and develop products, reports, and multimedia presentations to improve information sharing and privacy protections among all levels of government.
