Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $399,063)

The Urban Institute (UI) will continue its partnership with Alachua County, Allegheny County, and Travis County to develop, implement, and evaluate a local data-driven, collaborative, strategic plan to achieve meaningful reductions in their jail populations. This project will guide the reinvestment of jail population reduction savings into more proactive public safety measures in the community. Funding will be used to support UI's continued collection and analysis of criminal justice system data, enabling UI to guide local planners in the development and ongoing evaluation of a comprehensive jail population reduction plan. A series of justice reinvestment alternatives will be developed.
