Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $350,000)

The Institute for Intergovernmental Research (IIR) will work with the Bureau of Justice Assistance to provide support services to the National Information Exchange Model (NIEM), on behalf of the NIEM Program Management Office (PMO) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). NIEM enables information sharing, focusing on information exchanged among organizations as part of their current or intended business practices. NIEM exchange development methodology results in a common semantic understanding among participating organizations, and data formatted in a semantically consistent manner. NIEM provides standardize content (actual data exchange standards), as well as tools and manage processes. IIR will support the NIEM 2009 National Training Event, the NIEM National Rollout Effort, and maintaining the NIEM Project Web site (www.niem.gov).
