Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $81,760)
The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG) allows states and units of local governments, including tribes, to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on their own state and local needs and conditions. Grant funds can be used for state and local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, and information systems for criminal justice, including for any one or more of the following purpose areas: 1) law enforcement programs; 2) prosecution and court programs; 3) prevention and education programs; 4) corrections and community corrections programs; 5) drug treatment and enforcement programs; 6) planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs; and 7) crime victim and witness programs (other than compensation).
The disparate jurisdictions consisting of the city of Springfield and Clark County have applied jointly for the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) funds in the amount of $81,760 to support personnel and purchase equipment. Clark County, serving as the fiscal agent, will use their share of the award ($40,880) to purchase nine Dell Precision Workstations, one Ocean Systems detective, 14 Vertex VXX-410 Portable VHFs, and two six unit chargers. The city of the Springfield will use their share of the award ($40,880) to purchase supplies and equipment for its special operations team. The county will use JAG funds to purchase audio video equipment, one laptop computer, two laser inserts, and one nut wizard for the uniform patrol unit, three telephone recording devices (ear buds), identity-kit, one laptop computer, one audio video equipment and 16 raid jackets for the persons unit, and one Silver Bird Dog All-In-One GPS Package, one digital voice recorder kit with one extra recorder, and an IPod recorder with software for the intelligence unit.
