Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $36,927)
The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG) allows states and units of local governments, including tribes, to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on their own state and local needs and conditions. Grant funds can be used for state and local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, and information systems for criminal justice, including for any one or more of the following purpose areas: 1) law enforcement programs; 2) prosecution and court programs; 3) prevention and education programs; 4) corrections and community corrections programs; 5) drug treatment and enforcement programs; 6) planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs; and 7) crime victim and witness programs (other than compensation).
The disparate jurisdictions consisting of Bucks County and the townships of Bristol and Bensalem will use their Fiscal Year 2009 JAG award in the amount of $36,927 to support community programs, fund overtime, and purchase software, equipment, and supplies. The township of Bristol, serving as the fiscal agent, will use its share of grant funds to help the Bristol Police Department purchase technical equipment to outfit a new state of the art training/roll call area. The equipment will include an overhead LCD projector, flat screen video monitor, DVD player, sound devices, and a smart board. The department will also acquire and install a crime mapping module to be integrated into their records management software. The Bensalem Police Department will use the remainder of the funds to purchase crime mapping/crime reports computer software, directed patrol overtime costs, and support the Police Athletic League.
