Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $43,984)

The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG) allows states and units of local governments, including tribes, to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime based on their own state and local needs and conditions. Grant funds can be used for state and local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, and information systems for criminal justice, including for any one or more of the following purpose areas: 1) law enforcement programs; 2) prosecution and court programs; 3) prevention and education programs; 4) corrections and community corrections programs; 5) drug treatment and enforcement programs; 6) planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs; and 7) crime victim and witness programs (other than compensation).

The disparate jurisdictions of the city of Paducah and McCracken County will utilize their JAG award in the amount of $43,984 to purchase law enforcement equipment and supplies. The city of Paducah will be the fiscal agent for this grant and both jurisdictions have agreed to divide the total award amount equally. The city of Paducah will utilize their portion of the funds to purchase 12 Dell laptop computers, four Dell desktop computers, one 20 inch computer monitor, one 17 inch computer monitor, one computer docking station, six pepper popper targets, one range timer, two simulation training guns, two radar speed enforcement units, one evidentiary ET scanner/palm pilot, and one vehicular IP mobile-net modem. McCracken County will utilize their portion of the funds to purchase six Martel digital MDE2 model digital in-car cameras and recording systems, ajd the installation of the in-car cameras. The goals of this project are to purchase equipment and supplies for systemic improvements or enhancements that would otherwise be unavailable.
