Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $80,839)
The purposes of the FY 2009 Tribal Courts Assistance Program (TCAP) are to develop new tribal courts, improve the operations of existing tribal courts, and provide training and technical assistance for tribal court staff. The TCAP program goals are to provide planning grants that will focus on establishing tribal courts by supporting the development of comprehensive strategy and implementation plans, provide grants for existing tribal court systems to enhance tribal court services, and provide planning grants for tribal justice system strategies.
The Agdaagux Tribe of King Cove will support the planning and implementation if a single-tribe court system. The primary goals of the project are to assess capabilities and needs for computer and management information services; review current tribal codes and legal procedures; inform the community about the Tribal Court; educate the community about the benefits of a tribal court; and develop and implement an evaluation process. The Agdaagux Tribal Court will expend TCAP funds for personnel and benefits for the Tribal Court Administrator, BJA-required training for all Court staff, supplies, utilities, evaluation, and consultant trainers.
