Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $550,000)
The Integrated Justice Information Systems (IJIS) Institute will continue to provide services for the National Information Exchange Model (NIEM) program and operational support. NIEM is the data model designed to facilitate information exchanges across multiple communities of interest using data naming standards and a structure for creating exchanges. NIEM is currently supporting missions related to justice, public safety, and homeland security, including: law enforcement, intelligence, courts, prosecutors, corrections, emergency and disaster management, person/cargo screening, and international trade. IJIS will provide support to the Common Terrorism Information Sharing Standards effort and the Information Sharing Environment (ISE)in the field, as directed by the NIEM Program Office. IJIS will continue to provide private industry best practices and expertise, including the consideration of private sector interests on NIEM matters that could impact the public/private partnership.
